Educational Project

In the framework of this project we train teenage boys and girls from
kibbutz high schools how to tutor their special needs peers, all of whom
live in the periphery. This service enables the welfare system in the
area to widen its informal educational activities for the weaker side of
the population during the afternoon hours: after the special needs youth
have left the institution/school/framework that they attend during school
hours. Also, this project enables opening new frames that were non
existant beforehand: for example, the club room for special needs youth
who have C.P. in Nitzaney HaNegev school, which absorbs Jewish and
Bedouin special needs youth, activities of photography classes for
retarded youth with normal youth which takes place at the Kochav
centre in Maalot, and other similar activities in other places. This
project advocates for positive educational activities, area wise, for all
communities in peripheral areas and deepens the contact between
communities and the special needs youth with their families.

The project is ongoing since 1995 in the Western Galilee, the northern
Negev, the Upper Galilee, Beit Shaan Valley and the Jordan Valley
areas and we aim to widen to other areas and to other different
communities like the Arab villages and other sectors. The activities are
based in a certain area and serve all the special needs population from
kibbutzim, Arab villages, community villages, towns and developing
towns in that particular area.

Till now we have received financial support from the Sakta Fund and
the Jewish Federation for which we are grateful and extend our thanks
for their articipation.
