Ahada's Administration

AHADA is administrated by a chairwoman, director, secretary and a
secretariat and is a department in the United Kibbutz Movement offices
under their jurisdiction. We are a recognized voluntary organization.

The chairwoman deals with personal problems of parents regarding
their handicapped children in the Kibbutzim, supplies information about
housing frames for the handicapped, pertinent rights and laws regarding
future security for the handicapped, meets personally with parents who
wish to discuss their problems, lectures before secretariats in
Kibbutzim and Local Councils. Is responsible for the contents of the
monthly newspaper, meetings of the secretariat, order of the meeting
and is responsible for the protocol. Maintains contact with all the other
organizations existing in Israel, the law offices and social and welfare
departments of the United Kibbutz Movements, members of the Knesset
who are politically attached to the United Kibbutz Movements, seminars
and conventions.

The director is responsible for the organizations educational projects.
We have ongoing educational projects in various high schools in
different areas with pupils from 9th to 12th grades who volunteer their
time helping the handicapped and special education pupils twice a
week during the after school hours. The projects are partially financed
by the Ministry of Education, the Local councils and other donations
from different private funds. The projects are given instruction and
advise by physchologists from Telem and educational advisors in the
schools. In Beit Yerach school in the Jordan Valley we have a different
type of model. Twice a week a club room is open where the
handicapped can learn arts, do homework etc., with the help of pupils
and tutors from the school. Our final goal is to establish further similar
projects in every secondary area school in the country. Obviously it is
essential for these projects to find funding which covers the expenses of
the people involved, transportation, physcological backing, both for the
pupils and the handicapped and materiel essential to opening the club
room.

AHADAS Bar-Mitzvah project is ongoing in various kibbutzim. A class
of Bar-Mitzvah children integrate during the year that they are doing
tasks which are part of a yearly program for Bar-Mitzvah children, two
or three challenged children, who normally would be unable to
celebrate their Bar-Mitzvah. The project is extremely educational.
Teaches the normal child, patience, tolerance and acceptance of the
different child. The families also participate. We are constantly in need
of donations to continue this important project. AHADA received a
Certificate of Honor for this project from the Trump Foundation.

The secretary, is responsible for membership lists, distribution of the
monthly newsletter and helps the chairwoman when necessary.

The secretariat has 15 members who are all volunteers. It meets once
every six weeks to discuss the organizations policy, yearly activities
and distribution of work. One member of the secretariat represents our
organization in the Law and Statutory Committee in the Knesset and
closely follows the passing of the Law for Equal Rights for the
handicapped. She is in contact with Bezcut organization. Another
member is responsible for the Parents School, which is now running for
its eighth year. Parents hear lectures on various subjects pertaining to
reasons for disabilities, genetic problems, new medication and
equipment, laws and regulations, social and welfare rights and a varied
curriculum of subjects from lecturers who are from an academic
institution or from Government offices. The school has formed a very
strong support group for the parents.

Future security. Most of the handicapped children (ages 18 - 55) who
were born in kibbutzim are not members, which means that they do not
have the rights of a member. Ahada and the legal departments of the
United Kibbutz Movements recommend that the parents sign an
agreement with the kibbutz in order to maintain their childrens rights
under the Regulations of the Communal Association, clause ,66/67
which deals with dependents and to ensure future security. In light of the
drastic changes that the kibbutz movements are undergoing in the last
few years, signing an agreement ensures economical standing and future
security for the handicapped child.
Our organization recommends that the kibbutzim should arrange life
insurance for the handicapped, just as they do for other members,

Our organization offers kibbutzim an agreement to ensure future
security for a handicapped person who was accepted as a member, at
least 20-25 years ago with his peer group, and at that time was
recognized as being handicapped,
With our recommendation and complete backing from the legal
departments of the United Kibbutz Movements parents sign agreements
with their kibbutz. Anyone who is interested in receiving a copy of the
agreement should contact Tehila Bak, President.

Custody: Parents who have handicapped children and they are
diagnosed as disqualified to be independent and are incapable of living
independently are demanded according to the law from age 18 to
arrange custody. We help parents by informing them how, where and
what papers are essential for this legal procedure.

all parents, secretarys of kibbutzim, directors of rehabilitation/health
committees on kibbutzim, to all departments of social services in local
councils, health centers and childrens clinics and to all the other
